Transformers 2

Very good action, too much in my opinion, but that's just me. I liked the story line and the actors were all great. I was just bored with all the fighting after awhile. The kids all loved it.

I give it a 3 out of 5

I liked it... Decent story line, pretty good acting and a boat load of SciFi. The action ran at a pretty good pace and although it was a longer movie, I wasn't watching my watch. There were a few inane parts but overall very good. Some folks might say it had "too much" action... Hello??? Transformers??? Were you expecting them to discuss their differences over a cup of tea!!!

I give it 5 out of 5

Twilight

Yes, I must review it. Okay so I didn't love it the first time. But once I watched it a few times it grew on me. It is entertaining and different. I am not a huge Rob fan, but he did a good job and Kristen Stewart was endearing as Bella. I am looking forward to the next in the series, especially with more money used to make better special effects.

I give this a 4 out 5.

Oh my goodness!!! I missed this in the theater choosing James Bond's Quantum of Solace (which is not a real Bond movie... But don't get me started!) over this movie. But, we were visited by the Techno Fairies who brought us a DVD player that loops endlessly. I have now watched Twilight 732 times. I thought the movie was decent. It was not a total chick flick but darn close. I do have to admit that the music was pretty good.

All in all I'll give it a 4 out of 5

Lets Play CATCH UP!!!

I can't believe how far behind we are. I am getting really good at this "catch up" game, I just wish I could get really good at the "Staying ahead" game.

Wives & Daughters

NR, 1999 (probably a PG)

Life changes drastically for the good-natured Molly Gibson (Justine Waddell) when her widowed father (Bill Paterson) decides to remarry, and a woman with her own set of rules (Francesca Annis) and a beautiful daughter (Keeley Hawes) becomes her stepmother. Award-winning screenwriter Andrew Davies (Bridget Jones's Diary) penned the script to this four-episode BBC miniseries based on Elizabeth Gaskell's unfinished novel.
I enjoyed watching this movie. My husband actually watched it with me and didn't seem to hate it. It reminded me a lot of Jane Austin's stories. Great movie when you have a lot of time.
I give it a 4 out 5.

Cheater!!! You can't cut and paste your review from Netflix! I'll do mine the old fashioned way... I like the movie. It was a total chick flick but after watching the Hornblower series I find some of these time period pieces pretty good. I did like that the main character was strong, honest and trustworthy even though she was a girl.... A good role model for my girls!

New In Town

PG 13, 2009
The weather isn't the only drastic change for high-paid consultant Lucy Hill (Renée Zellweger) when she's sent from her home base in South Beach, Fla., to a small Minnesota town to improve the productivity of a local manufacturing plant. The town's residents also take some getting used to, especially the ruggedly handsome union boss (Harry Connick Jr.) who's doing his darnedest to make sure that Lucy doesn't cut any jobs.
It was a cute chick flick, a little too predictable, but many funny parts.
Thanks again to my friends who kidnapped me for lunch and a movie. It was fun.
I give it a 3 out 5.

Plagiarism, plagiarism, plagiarism... I haven't seen this one yet. And, despite my wife's favorable rating, she won't let me get it either.

Mamma Mia

First I must say to all my girlfriends who went along with me to this movie, I know most of you liked it, but I have one question,"WHY"? Second I really am not a musical fan. I like the old ones, like Sound of Music or My Fair Lady. But this didn't come close to those. I thought Meryl Streep did a good job, but whoever thought Pierce Brosnan could sing needs some hearing aids. Third my final dig, I am not really an ABBA fan(sorry honey). Okay so why did I even go to the Movie? Because I wanted to conform to peer pressure and Stacey said it was good.

I give this a 1 out 5

Okay... I did not see this movie and will most likely wait until it comes out on Netflix but, I had to comment on this. Why? Because my wife took a shot at ABBA. While it is true that I love my wife, I can certainly not vouch for her apparent taste in music. Retribution for her "dig" on ABBA will be forthcoming as all music disks in her car must now feature ABBA!!!

North & South

Okay who doesn't love a good romance? This is one of the best movies I have seen since Pride & Prejudice. This is a story based on Elizabeth Gaskell's novel. Its about North England and the difference's in the upper class and the industrial rich. Richard Armitage is sooo... good looking. (sorry Lon) I found this on BBC and Netflix.

LOVE IT!!!

I give this a 5 out of 5.

The Last Mimzy

Paula's Review:
Good movie for the family. My girls really liked this and we have watched it many times. It's about a brother and sister who find a box of strange toys from the future. Both children start to develop strange abilities as they play with the toys. This has a great story line and keeps you guessing.

I give it a 4 out of 5

Lon's Review:
Good movie. I liked the pace and story. The best thing I can say about any movie is that it is entertaining and this was. It was especially nice as the kids could watch it unattended (not to scary, gory, or violent).

Amazing Grace

Paula's review:
This movie is about the William Wilberforce an English Politician who fought for the abolition of the slave trade. Ioan Gruffud is the leading actor. Ioan is one of my favorite actors. He does a great job with English time period acting. This movie is difficult to watch because of the subject. I wanted to see it, but I struggled through it. Not one I would recommend to anyone for entertainment, but if your interested in learning some history it is well made.
I give it 3 out of 5

PG, 2006

Becoming Jane

Paula's review:
This is about the Author Jane Austin(duh). Anyway, I was disappointed. I love Jane Austin books and I think I was expecting too much out of this. This was something to fill time, but isn't one that I will watch over and over. I like the actors in the movie and thought they did a good job of portraying the time period.

I give this 3 out of 5

PG, 2007

Knocked Up

Paula's review:
Unrated otherwise no one could watch it. Its really bad. Very explicit. Language, skin, drugs, alcohol, etc... Okay so why did I watch as much as I did? I really like Katherine Heigl. She does a good job being pregnant and acting emotional (normal pregnant women stuff).

Unrated, should be R+

Lon's Review:
Superbad... Oh, that was a different movie... But the moniker still fits! I didn't enjoy this movie at all. It did have a redeeming quality in the end but if I mentioned it I woulod need a spoiler alert. Too much effort to set that up for this movie...

Next

Paula's review:
This is a very interesting show. Lots of plot changes and unpredictability. I am not a huge Nicholas Cage fan, but I liked this. Jessica Biel (why can't I have her body?)does a great job as his love interest. Not a show to watch with kids due to violence.

I give this 4 out of 5.

Harry Potter "Goblet of Fire"

Paula's Review:
In the fourth book and fourth year at Hogwarts, Harry competes in the Tri-Wizard tournament. With help from his friends and teachers Harry is able to make it to the finals were he meets up with Voldemort. I enjoyed watching and re-watching this one. Its fast pace and the addition of all the new characters adds some depth to the story.
I give this 4 out of 5.

PG-13, 2005

Harry Potter "Prizoner of Azkaban"

Paula's review:
This one is a little darker than the first 2. My girls were scared of the werewolf fight with the dog. Otherwise this was a good movie. I liked that Harry met his god father, Serious Black and learned more about his parents. Professor Lupin who is the, defense against the dark arts teacher in this one, is a really good teacher for Harry. It is too bad that he has to leave. Ron, Hermone and Harry's relationships grow stronger and they find themselves even more aware of Voldemorts attempts to get to
Harry.

I give this 4 out of 5

PG, 2004

Harry Potter "Chamber of Secrets"

Paula's Review:
This is the 2nd in the series. Harry and his friendships continue to get stronger and his knowledge of magic increases. Harry shows how loyal he is to Dumbledore and to the school when he discovers Voldemorts younger self under Hogwarts . Again I like the moral lessons learned in the story about friendship and loyalty.
I give this 4 out of 5.

PG,200
